Retreat for writers
Distraction-free writing time
with a yoga chaser
Thursday, May 15 – Sunday, May 18, 2025
Lake Arrowhead, CA
Join me for 3 nights/4 days of writing time in a beautiful wooded setting,
with an amazing private chef, daily writer-centric yoga and meditation,
and a fabulous community of other writers.
Lodging and food: $695-$1595
Tuition: $495
$250 deposit holds your space
The idea behind these retreats is simple: time. Time to write, to brainstorm, to clear your psychic space from distractions. To sit with your manuscript. To revise. To remember why you love this. To finish something. To start something. To remind yourself how good you are. To feel refreshed. To be supported. To not have to think about anything else. To rest. To eat amazing food that someone else has prepared for you (and cleaned up after!). To read. To hike. To create To be.
There are no critiques, no readings, no workshops, no cooking, no cleaning, no distractions. Just you and the incredible spaciousness of uninterrupted time in a supportive community of other writers. There are daily optional yoga classes and guided meditations, both geared specifically for writers. Our private chef for the retreat, the extraordinary Chef Dan, cooks fresh, organic meals and desserts prepared with everyone’s dietary needs taken into account, and there are a plethora of snacks and things to nosh. The surroundings are quiet and beautiful, and Lake Arrowhead is only a fifteen minute drive away. All writers of anything are welcome, whether it’s a book or a blog, a dissertation or a business plan, poetry or screenplays, articles or songs, or anything else.
Likewise, all levels of physicality and yoga experience are welcome. You do not have to have a current yoga practice, and all yoga is optional. I lead two yoga classes each day: one intermediate and one beginning. You may come to either, both, or neither, whichever serves you best. The yoga is there to help you get out of your mind (in the best possible way) and let the body unwind from hours at a laptop or notebook. There are also daily guided meditations, to slide you into your hours and hours of protected time.
Whatever it is you need in the moment — whether that's writing or reading or sleeping, having a fabulous conversation with another writer, or simply sitting on the wood porch of your cabin, listening to the rustling of the leaves and letting the birdsong wash over you — this retreat is about the time and the permission to do just that. I’d love to see you there.

Our location is The Perch at Twin Peaks, a gorgeously refurbished retreat center near Lake Arrowhead in Southern California. It offers a wide variety of accommodation choices and costs, from sharing a twin bunk bed with a friend to having your own private king bed suite, and we have the entire place to ourselves. There are hiking trails nearby, and shops and restaurants a 15-minute drive away. Please note that Twin Peaks is at an elevation of about 5800 feet.

The Perch at Twin Peaks is about a two-hour drive from Los Angeles. If you are flying, LAX is the nearest main airport, while Ontario is by far the closest.
If you are a writer who identifies with any group that is historically under-represented in traditional publishing and who has some financial need, consider applying for an All Voices Fellowship! These cover the entire cost of the retreat other than travel. Apply here for an All Voices Fellowship. If you’d like to read about past All Voices recipients, go here.

MAY 2025 AVAILABILITY
Cabin 1 — 4 bedrooms/2 baths
This cabin has a fabulous common area, with full kitchen and large dining area perfect for writing. There is a wood-burning fireplace in the living room. Something to note, though, is that this cabin is right on the street. As it’s so quiet here, you will hear every car as it passes, so this cabin is best for those not bothered by road noise. The Master bedroom in the back is quiter and has its own en suite full bathroom. The other three rooms are near the street and share a hallway bath with shower but no tub.
:
1 Daybed room available
Single Occupancy
Daybed
Shared Bath, no tub
$1095 for room & food + $495 tuition
A small, simple, cozy room with a window looking out to the street, so expect some street noise. This is a trundle bed with a wire footboard.

Cabin 2 — 2 bedroom/1 bath (shower only)
This sweet cabin has a cozy living space with a kitchen and dining room table. Cabin 2 does get a little street noise, so it’s best for those not bothered by that. This cabin also has one of the the two shared summer camp bunk rooms for a more affordable option. The bedrooms are fairly dark, but please also note that I took the photos on a gray day.
:
Queen Room
Single Occupancy
Queen Bed
Shared Bath; no bathtub
$1295 for room & food + $495 tuition
A small, cozy-dark queen room with one smaller window and a closet.
Shared OR Single
Summer Camp Bunk Room
Double or Single Occupancy
2 Twin Beds (bunk)
Shared Bath; no tub
To reserve this as a private room: $895 for lodging & food + $495 tuition
OR reserve this room with a friend* and each pay: $695 for lodging & food + $495 tuition
There are two options for this teeny room. You can either reserve it by yourself and be the only person in this room, or you can sign up with a friend and you each get $200 off the single room cost. Because this room is so small — it’s basically just a place to sleep, with a twin bunk, an open closet, and a tiny window — I don’t offer it as a shared room unless you sign up with a friend you already know.
*To reserve with a friend, write your friend’s name on the registration form on the “requested roommate” section

Cabin 4 — Private Queen Studio
Another beautiful studio cabin, with high wood-beam ceilings and a gorgeous red stand-alone tub. This cabin has a comfy queen size bed, a dresser, and a small fridge and coffee maker (but no kitchen or desk).
:
Single Occupancy
Queen bed
Private bath w/ excellent tub
$1495 for room and food + $495 tuition

Cabin 5 — 2 bedroom/1 bath
A sweet 2-bedroom with a full bath and tub, this cabin has a little porch deck with a counter where you can write or hang out for coffee. There’s a cozy living space with a dining room table and desk, as well as a full kitchen. The Full bedroom has a small cabinet at the far end, while the Queen room has a overstuffed chair.
:
Full Bed room
Single Occupancy
Full bed
Shared Bath with tub
$1095 for room & food + $495 tuition
Slightly larger than it looks here, this room has a full bed and a cupboard opposite the bed.

Cabin 6 — 2 bedroom/1 bath
This cabin is bright and colorful, with a queen room and a twin room.
:
Twin Bed Room
Single Occupancy
Twin bed w/ headboard and footboard
Shared Bath with tub
$1195 for room & food + $495 tuition
Because of the headboard and footboard, this room is best for someone not so tall. 🙂 There’s also a dresser and an open closet.

Cabin 9 — Private 1 bed/1 bath
This one-bedroom suite has a queen bedroom with a wardrobe, a full kitchen, and a full bath with tub. It’s cozy and darker inside than it appears here. And! There’s a treehouse outside!
:
Single Occupancy
Queen bed
Private bath with tub
$1595 for room and food + $495 tuition
