This retreat is about time. And healing. And community. And discovering who we are now.

It’s been a long four years for many of us since the last retreat. I’ve changed, and I suspect many of you have, too. I’m so thrilled to be holding this space for all of us again. If you’re in need of writing time, of refuge, of returning to yourself or having time with this new version of you to figure out who it is, then this retreat is for you.

The idea behind these retreats is simple: time. Time to write, to brainstorm, to clear your psychic space from distractions. To sit with your manuscript. To revise. To remember why you love this. To finish something. To start something. To remind yourself how good you are. To feel refreshed. To be supported. To not have to think about anything else.

There are no critiques, no readings, no workshops, no cooking, no cleaning, no distractions. Just you and the incredible spaciousness of uninterrupted time in a supportive community of other writers. Daily all-levels yoga and meditation, amazing food prepared by our private chef, and lovely surroundings compliment your writing time. All writers of anything are welcome, whether it’s a book or a blog, a dissertation or a business plan, poetry or screenplays. Any and all.

Likewise, all levels of physicality and yoga experience are welcome. You do not have to have a current yoga practice, and all yoga is optional. I lead two yoga classes each day: one intermediate and one beginning. You may come to either, both, or neither, whichever serves you best. The yoga is there to help you get out of your mind (in the best possible way) for a while and let the body unwind from hours at a laptop or notebook.

For 2024, we have a new retreat location: The Perch at Twin Peaks, near Lake Arrowhead. It’s a completely refurbished retreat center consisting of 12 cabins, a redesigned barn for yoga and meals, and several heated outdoor patios. Weather is usually gorgeous and temperate in the spring and fall. There is a wide variety of accommodation choices, from sharing a twin bunk bed to having your own single King bed suite. There are several hiking trails you can access directly from the retreat center, and shops and restaurants a 15-minute drive away. Please note: Twin Peaks is at an elevation of about 5800 feet.

To apply for an All Voices Fellowships, which covers the cost of everything but travel for a writer who identifies with any group that is historically under-represented in traditional publishing, go here.

TO GET TO THE PERCH: The Perch at Twin Peaks is a two-hour drive from Los Angeles. If you are flying, LAX is the nearest main airport while Ontario is the closest. From either airport, you will need to rent a car or arrange a ride (I will do my best to help).

RETREAT INCLUDES:

• Your choice of accommodations in a cozy, peaceful setting in the woods.

• Saturday night wine & sweets.

• Nearby hiking trails and a 15-minute drive to Lake Arrowhead.

• Hours and hours of distraction-free writing time.

• Communal areas and meals for those moments when you just need to connect.

• Two outdoor writing spaces, with heat lamps or a fire pit.

• Two optional daily yoga classes: a Gentle/Level 1 class for all bodies and abilities (no experience or flexibility required) and a vigorous Level 2 Vinyasa for regular practicioners.

• Optional daily guided meditations (about 20 minutes long), designed to encourage creativity.

• A supportive community of other writers.

CABIN 1 IS SOLD OUT
This cabin has a fabulous common area, with full kitchen and large dining area perfect for writing. There is a wood-burning fireplace in the living room. Something to note, though, is that this cabin is right on the street. As it’s so quiet here, you will hear every car as it passes, so this cabin is best for those not bothered by road noise. The Master bedroom in the back is quiter and has its own en suite full bathroom. The other three rooms are near the street and share a hallway bath with shower but no tub.

Cabin 13 — 3 bedrooms/1.5 baths

This is our main cabin for the retreat, where I stay, where we have a staging ground for meals, where the 7 am cold breakfast will be, and where the snacks live for people to come get whenever they’d like. It’s large and has a gorgeous communal space, along with 1.5 baths. Because of all this, Cabin 13 is designated as a talking communal space, where you can come to have a conversation if your cabinmates are writing and would like quiet. Please only choose this cabin if you don’t mind people talking and laughing (respectfully, of course) from 7 am until around 10 pm, when quiet hours start.

I’ll be in the master in this cabin, and so am only showing the other two available rooms, both of which are upstairs.

Also, both bathrooms are downstairs, which means if you want to use a bathroom in the middle of the night, you will have to navigate these stairs. Please be okay with this if you reserve this room!

COVID POLICY

Everyone attending will be required to have a negative home covid test result from the start day of the retreat. You may take the test either at home before you come to the retreat center, or when you arrive (I will have covid tests available on site for anyone who’d prefer to take it there). A negative result is required to participate in the retreat. If you test positive, you may either chose to go home or, if you are in a single cabin, you may stay and just isolate (not come to the group events or meals) and we can drop your food off at your door.

CANCELLATION POLICY

The $250 deposit is non-refundable.

Cancel 60 or more days out: Full refund less the deposit

Cancelling closer than 60 days from the start date of the retreat: If we can fill your room, we will refund your money less the deposit. If we cannot fill your room, we regret that we will not be able to refund your payment. If you find your own replacement, you may transfer the full amount of your payment to them with no loss of deposit.

However. These are fraught times. As with every decision, Splendid Mola will hold by the principles of kindness and truth, and we know you will, too. Should you get covid or otherwise get ill or have to cancel with short notice for another emergency, please talk to me and I will do what I can.
