If you are a writer who identifies with any group that is underrepresented in traditional publishing and you have some financial need,
please check out the All Voices Fellowship Application,
which awards one free spot on this retreat to a writer who meets those qualifications.
The idea behind the Splendid Mola Writing Retreats is simple: time. Time to write, to brainstorm, to clear your psychic space from distractions. To sit with your manuscript. To revise. To remember why you love this. To finish something. To start something. To remind yourself how good you are. To feel refreshed. To be supported. To not have to think about anything else.
There are no critiques, no readings, no workshops, no cooking, no cleaning, no distractions. Just you and the incredible spaciousness of uninterrupted time in a supportive community of other writers. Daily all-levels yoga and meditation, amazing food prepared by our private chef, and lovely surroundings compliment your writing time. All writers of anything are welcome, whether it’s a book or a blog, a dissertation or a business plan.
Likewise, all levels of physicality and yoga experience are welcome. You do not have to have a current yoga practice! There are two yoga classes offered each day: one intermediate Vinyasa class for those who already have a practice, and one beginning Hatha class for those who are new or have injuries. You may come to either, both, or neither, whichever serves you best. The yoga is there to help you get out of your mind (in the best possible way) for a while and let the body unwind from hours at a laptop or notebook.
The gorgeous town of Idyllwild is nestled in the San Jacinto mountains, about 2 1/2 hours from Los Angeles. It is known as an enclave for both artists and those who love the outdoors, and there is a huge focus on the arts. Weather is usually gorgeous and temperate in the spring and fall, and is delightfully cold and snowy in winter. Please note: Idyllwild is at an elevation of about 5500 feet. Also, we will be in the mountains, so cell phone reception can be spotty. Retreat accommodations are several different mountain cabins or cottages, all near each other, with our home base being the grand “luxury log cabin.”
Most accommodations are walking distance to the Luxury Log Cabin—but in the spring and fall, when we don’t need to think about snow, some cabins are driving distance. Be sure to check and choose your preference before you commit. All are described in full below. Breakfast, dinner, yoga, and meditation will take place at the Luxury Log Cabin, which has both a stunning, huge deck as well as a palatial living/dining room area. During the spring and fall retreats, yoga will be outside on the wrap-around deck in the midst of trees. In the winter, we will clear the living room and practice in front of a roaring fire. Lunch is delivered to you at your cabin so you can work uninterrupted through the afternoon.
The cost is all-inclusive: lodging, meals, yoga, snacks. All you need is yourself, your clothes, and your laptop. Here’s what a previous participant wrote about the retreat on her blog.
